O Tannenbaum

Du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

I took the day off on Friday and we ventured out to find the perfect Christmas tree. I wanted this to be a memorable outing, perhaps the beginning of a family tradition, so a trip to Lowe's to buy a tree off the rack just wouldn't do. So we bundled up Naomi and drove about 30 minutes north of the city to a 200-acre, cut-it-yourself tree farm. I must admit we ended up opting for a pre-cut tree even here, although it had just been cut from the farm. Juggling a 3-month-old infant, it was just more manageable. Next year, though, I'm bringin' the saw. Here are a few pictures from our outing, with descriptions below:

First row: looking out over a field of new trees (these grow for 7-8 years before being cut down for Christmas trees); our new Jeep tires look much cooler with mud on them; Cal and Naomi go for a "sleigh ride" in the barn; dusty holiday trinkets everywhere; a real live reindeer (they had two)!

Second row: Naomi slept through most of our expedition; Santa's sleigh stuck in a tree; the family tree on the roof rack (I felt like Clark Griswold); Naomi helped me drive home; behold, the finished product!

On Saturday Jon and his girlfriend Kori came down to visit. We had a nice time hanging out with them, although Kori was oddly insistent upon getting her picture taken with the stuffed bear at the chocolate store.

This afternoon the plan is to relax on the couch and cheer on the Bengals as they take on the fearsome Patriots.

What a great Christmas story and new tradition for the three of you. I loved the photos! (Great shot of the reindeer, also!)Your tree is really nice...good choice. Uncle Jon sure was excited to spend some time with Naomi. Both Jon and Kori look good with the bear ...They look less like the bear than it's last visitor! Have a great week. Love, Grandma C./Mom

Hey Guys,

It was great getting to spend some time with you all over the weekend. We definitely need to do it more often. The house/tree look great.

Matt, did you happen to drive underneath any log trucks on the way home from the tree farm? If so, then you really are like Clark W. Griswold. Now all you need to do is deck the house out with 25,000 twinkling bulbs.

I unfortunately had to get a tree off the rack...I was told a real tree was a fire hazard. Fire hazard, fire schmadzard....where's the holiday spirit?!

Clark: "We're kicking off our fun old fashion family Christmas by heading out into the country in the old front-wheel drive sleigh to embrace the frosty majesty of the winter landscape and select that most important of Christmas symbols."

Audrey: "We're not coming all the way out here just to get one of those stupid ties with Santa Clauses on it are we?"

Clark: "No, I have one of those at home."

I loved your use of German, since I'm learning and we hear it daily here in Osterreich:).

Jones is slacking, where you at? Pardon the grammatically incorrect question.

Love the pics and the story. It will be a good tradition indeed.

My favorite line from the movie is

"That's pretty low mister, if I had a rubber hose, I'd beat you senseless." (it might be slightly different)

Who knows their Christmas Vacation trivia? Who said it?

That's an easy one. It's the police officer that comes to investigate the abduction of Clark's boss...
