Scary

We had quite a scare yesterday afternoon. Naomi had been running a fever, which we were trying to keep under control by keeping her cool and giving her infant doses of acetaminophen, but she ended up having a febrile seizure (meaning fever-induced). After a 911 call and an ambulance ride to the ER, the doctor eliminated more serious potential causes and sent us home with a very tired (and still feverish) little girl. The most we can do now is take the same steps we were taking before to reduce the fever and let it run its course over the next few days.

Although doctors are unsure about exactly why these types of seizures occur (in approximately 5% of young children), the good news is that they aren't believed to be harmful to the child at all, and the (two-thirds) odds are that she won't have another episode. That said, watching our little girl endure a seizure was about the scariest two minutes of our lives. I never would have understood why until we became parents.

That is terrifying, I'm glad it sounds like everything will be ok. Love to all you guys and wishes for NGC to be 100% for the fireworks tonight.

I second Jones. I'm glad to here that she's ok and am wishing she doesn't have any future episodes.

Thanks to Stacie this morning, & then Jon & Kori, I finally learned of Naomi Grace's fever-induced seizure just today. I MUST resolve to access TeamChandler more often! Such seizures are truly "benign" & not likely to occur again...shall we pray for that!? My heart goes out to you as the loving & frightened young parents, for there's nothing much more scary to witness in your own little one! I'm so thankful that she's now apparently feeling her sweet & happy self again! Rest easy, Mommy & Daddy!
Love you all!
